(Eec. 1 p,m.) CHUNGKING, June 9. Acknowledging the generous Allied response to appeals for aid, a Chinese spokesman said the situation remains grave and that the next few months womld fee very critical. He said it was not claimed that tbe Chuhsien airfields had been recap tured. The Japanese were engaged in hand-to-hand fighting in the street* and suburbs until Monday, when the Chinese regained control of the city Commenting on President Boose velt's warning regarding poison gas the. spokesman declared the Japanese had used gas on 800 different occasions. The Chinese had obtained copies of official Japanese instructions on the usage of gas from prisoners and had also captured unexploded gas shells.
