AXIS WIDENS SCOPE
kONPON. June 9 The roost significant news of the fighting in Libya is that the Axis has considerably increased the scope of its air operations. Yes- . terday British fighters shot down four enemy planes an 4 damaged others. However fierce the fighting, British planes are still being spared to carry , out the policy of bombing Axis targets west of the battlefield and across the Mediterranean. The Latest raids included attacks on Barce, in Libya, and on objectives in Sardinia and Crete. From all operations, nine planes are missing. It is apparent that in the Axis positions preparations are feverishly going ahead., A correspondent thinks the enemy might try his original intention of thrusting to the north-east for an ultimate blow at Tobruk.
