Over; 60 people attended a social and musical afternoon recently in connection with the ; Brooklyn JS.P.S. rest centre. The- supervisor,' Mrs. H. Temple White, spoke of the excellent preparations achieved by the Plunket aids, who, are attached to• the centre. Brigadier Green, was present and' congratulated the centre upon its splendid organisation, • remarks that were endorsed by Mr. Cooper. Songs were sung by Miss Myra Sawyer and Mrs. R. Kemp, Mr. Temple White accompanist, and Noeline Mardon performed two dances, Mrs. Sharlow playing the accompaniments. Several members were busy with papier mache and felt work. A quantity of felt posies were donated recently by the centre to; the Brooklyn Soldiers' Shop, the proceeds being for soldiers' parcels. More are being prepared for the next sale day. ■ ■ ( < .< t a i Fighting Forces Club. " The ■<* new Fighting Forces Club in Willis Street is proving agreat success. It is open to all members of the forces and visiting servicemen At the weekend delicious suppers were served. Mrs. A. E. Hamilton and Miss Edna Hamilton, who were in charge, were assisted by Mrs. Jean Chandler and Miss June McKenna. On Saturday night a number of visitors gave items. An exhibition dance of modern waltz and Cuban rhumba was given by Miss Edna Hamilton and Mr. Selfe. Sewing Circle's Gift of £10. The "bring and buy" in aid of funds for cigarettes and sweets for soldiers in hospital, which was held at the Cinderella Club yesterday in conjunction with the meeting of the Wellington Central branch of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds (Inc.). was a great success. The president, Mrs. James Pow. stated that during the month the guild had supplied three E.P.S. areas with papier mache splints and had made 18 rugs and 33 pairs of mittens for men on coastal defence. Letters of appreciation had been received from the commanding officer Three complete layettes h.ad also been made. The guild works on behalf of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, and one of the members.. Mrs Gabriel, read a letter receiyed from the head of a clothes distributing centre in London, expressing appreciation for the beautiful things that had been sent from New Zealand. It was decided by the sewing circle to allocate £10 to the All Purposes Patriotic Appeal. Mrs. Haughton, a retired English hospital. matron, gave instructive advice on tKe treatment of . burns caused fey incendiary bombs. Victory Welcome Club. About 150 people danced at the Victory Welcome Club for servicemen on Saturday night. There were also many visitors at the dance the previous night. The duties of master of ceremonies were undertaken by Sergeant Bob Sloan and Mr. R. Morton. Those, in charge of the suppers were Mrs. Slack and Mr. Anderson, and Sergeant Dick Russell gave assistance as doorkeeper. The club wishes to thank Mrs. Enting for her donation. It has been decided by the Dominion Council of the Plunket Society that certificates for loyal and devoted service be awarded to retiring committee members who.have given many years to Plunket work. .
