CLOSING DUE TO REMOVAL OF LABOUR
LONDON, June 8
The Geneva correspondent of the "Daily Mail" says that the Vichy Ministry for Industrial Production, announced that 2000 factories have closed and another 2000 are to close later. It is plain that this is due to the transfer of French workers to Germany, says the correspondent, who also stated that heavy industry working for Germany has reached its maximum output, but that the textile factories are working only 22 hours a week. According to a Vichy message, Laval has promised the representatives of 90 labour organisations a charter of labour aiming at unity between employers and employees. This is construed as an effort to win the support of the French workers, whom Laval has asked to make things easier for the Government. Laval added that collaboration with Germany was essential for the welfare of France.
