ALLIED FORCES

RECREATION CENTRE

A good deal of preparatory worK isnecessary before it will be possible to open the premises formerly^ occupied as the Waldorf Restaurant in Manners Street, Wellington, for the benefit of members of all the Allied forces. It is hoped, however, to arrange for the opening in a fortnight or three weeks' time.

The restaurant has been taken over by the National Patriotic Fund Board to provide a cafeteria, facilities for dancing and recreation, and an information bureau to cater for increased numbers of servicemen on leave.

Certain alterations to the lay-out of the premises are necessary, and the plans are being prepared by the Wellington architect, Mr. Edmund Anscombe. Mr. Anscombe offered his services free to the board, and his offer was gratefully accepted. Already Mr. Anscombe has submitted a plan, providing for a raised dance floor, cafeteria, and other facilities.
