IT'S UP TO US

SELF HELP AND SOBRIETY

WARTIME HABITS

Every New Zeulander is glad to know that help is forthcoming from our big American neighbour, Uncle Sam; and his ships, men, and munitions are sure of a hearty and thankful welcome. But the more support we get from overseas, the more should we dedicate ourselves to do more and better woi'k. to be as efficient as we possibly can, and to "help ourselves" to the utmost. '

Relaxation is a necessity to busy people, and all of us should remember that when we seek refreshment or offer hospitality at a licensed house, moderation should be kept in mind In wartime, when people are unsettled and many thousands are burdened with worry and anxiety, there is greater need than .ever to be temperate in thought and deed, and to do nothing to give offence to other folk.

The majority of people are moderate and reasonable in their ideas and habits. We in New Zealand enjoy a large measure of freedom to eal and drink what we wish. But those who wish to sell or consume alcoholic beyerages are bound by certain regulations designed to promote order and protect the public welfare. Sensible people obey those regulations. Moderation and sobriety are excellent virtues, and in wartime it is more than ever necessary to practise them.
