SHOOTING AFFAIR

YOUTH ARRESTED

BROTHER & SISTER HARMED

(P.A.) GISBORNE, This Day. Following' a shooting affray at Whangara, about 20 miles from Gis-| borne, a young man and young woman are in hospital suffering from gunshot wounds, and a youth has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder. The victims of the shooting are lan Fraser (18), wounded in the thigh, and his sister, Margaret Fraser (22),! a slight wound in the arm. The condition of the sufferers is not serious. They are son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Fraser, of Wha-j ngara, who are at present in Auckland. . j

Lan and Margaret Fraser, and a cowboy were the only ones on the property at the time., It is stated that lan Frase,r was riding a horse along a track leading to the homestead when the youth levelled a double-barrelled shotgun and fired, the charge lodging in Fraser's thigh. When his sister ran out to investigate the youth discharged the other barrel, Miss Fraser receiving the shots in the arm. Miss Fraser returned to the house and rang a neighbour and the police. The' neighbour took the two victims to hospital and the police on arrival, found the boy waiting for them and ready to give a full account of what had occurred. CHARGED AND REMANDED. Thomas Patrick Bell, cowboy, appeared before the Magistrate, Mr. Walton, charged with attempting to murder Miss Fraser and on the appli-cation-of the police was remanded to June 16. Detective-Sergeant Waterson said that the accused would be 17 next month. ,
