SEASON STARTS
ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
The 1942 Association football season began in Wellington on Saturday afternoon with twelve teams playing in the senior competition, and a thirteenth having 'a bye. As is usual in early games form was patchy, but indications were not lacking that despite the flow of Soccer talent to the Armed Forces enough Is left in Wellington to ensure bright football as the tea*is settle down.
Tho high light of the afternoon was the participation in the competition for the first time of an Army team and of a team from the newly-formed 'Railways Club. Another interesting point was that Air Force, who were regular contenders in the first division last year, have now a second senior team. The team that had the bye, Emergency Fire Service, Is also new to Soccer, though its players, of course, are not.
Results of the first division games were as follows:—
