PACIFIC COUNCIL

EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION

WASHINGTON, April 29. The Pacific Council met for 90 minutes today. Lord Halifax told the Press that the meeting consisted of the general weekly exchange of views and reports on the situation, with nothing particularly new. Members of the council generally praised President Roosevelt's speech of last -night. Dr. H. V. Evatt, who had been in New York for several days, suddenly changed his plans, returned to Washington, and attended the Pacific Council, where his presence occasioned some surprise. Dr. Evatt declined to say when he was going to London or whether he would be present at next Tuesday's council meeting. He told the Press that he could not discuss today's council meeting. Reporters should not expect a statement after every meeting. When shown newspaper banner headlines about Mr. Curtin's announcement of the arrival of strong American reinforcements in Australia, Dr. Evatt said, "That's fine," but did not comment further.
