BOWLING
CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS
After a postponement yesterday, the Welllnglun Bowling Centre's championship pairs competition was commenced today on the Karori Bowling Club's green. Competitors found the wind rather troublesome, but the green was in fine playing order. The championship is to be concluded tomorrow with the playing of the semi-finals and the final.
Play' today was marked by any amount of keenness, and there were some exciting finishes, two of the first-round games being won by the barest margin. The winner of the centre singles championship, London, of the Wellington Club, with Warwick as his lead, were drawn In the flrst round against Lawrie, of Victoria, who lost sensationally lh the first round of the elngles and who today had Smith as his lead. The Wellington pair won convincingly, in spite of some solid aggressive play by Lawrie, With numerous other wellknown bowlers there were also newcomers to the champion of champions' competition. The management of the tournament is ln the capable hands of Mr. W. Gilbert (centre secretary). Results are :— First Bound. —Seatoun (Williams, Snelling, s) 23; Central (McVean, Llghtowler, s) 12.
