HOLDING OF RANGOON
"ANOTHER TOBRUK"
(By Telegraph—rress Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 25. The Governor of Burma, Sir Reginald Dorman-Smith, broadcasting, said that Rangoon would be held at all costs and if necessary would become another Tobruk. A military commandant has been appointed at Rangoon. The situation in Burma, as far as is known in London, is that the British forces are holding the wes + bank of the Sittang River. The Japanese claim to have captured Pegu on Sunday is certainly false, and up to Monday evening at least the town is believed to have been in British hands. No news has been received of any landing on the coast. The Sittang is 400 yards broad where the line runs, but the rice-growing country around it is flat and dry at this season. —8.0. W.
