RUSH TO PAY RATES
In a late rush to avoid penalty on rates, money has rolled in to the City Treasurer's Department this week. The last day of escape from the penalty was Monday, but amounts received in yesterday morning's mail were also regarded as being within the time limit.
Monday's rate collection amounted to £21,000, and in yesterday morning's mail there was a further £8000.
The City Treasurer states that the total rates collected approximate the levy for the year—£629,ooo.
