In the Philippines there has been no land activity during the pastt 24 hours.
CALIFORNIA COAST
SHELLED BY ENEMY,
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 24
An enemy submarine, presumably Japanese, shelled the coastal area eight miles northward pi* Santa Barbara, California, tonight.
This is the first attack upon Ane. mainland of the United States.
The submarine fired between on© and two dozen shells. There weret no casualties and damage is neg-< ligiblc.
