ACTION PENDING
AGAINST WORST OFFENDERS
The City Lighting Controller, Mr. L. B. Hutton, said that generally the compliance was good. The reports from the suburban areas were most encouraging, but in the city there were too many cases where people left lights burning in unattended shops—a double offence, for everyone should know that lights may not be left in unattended buildings, black-out or no black-out.
Mr. Hutton said that it was now apparent that all but a few homes now had a room or several rooms properly blacked-out, whereas earlier many people had just switched the lights off.
Action would be taken in cases where the offences were inexcusable or were deliberate, said.Mr. Hutton, but in most cases reported by wardens the fault arose from carelessness. "Carelessness over lights in unattended shops and offices does not come under the heading of carelessness," he added.
Owing to an error, the results of the voting on the proposal to form Lower Hutt City into a fire, board area were given incorrectly in "The Post" yesterday. The correct result was 776 votes for, 82 against, and 6 informal.
