PLANE OUTPUT OF U.S.A.

PREDICTION FOR 1942

NEW YORK, February 21

Speaking at Topeka, Kansas, Senator Chandler, a member of the Senate Military Affairs Committee, predicted that the United States will make 50,000 military aeroplanes in 1942.

•He asserted that America had already surpassed Germany's production rate for aeroplanes, and added that as soon-as these planes were transported to bases where they could be used against the enemy the tide of battle would turn.

"We will suffer serious and grave losses before we are ready to carry the fight to the enemy," he declared, "but it may be possible to save Australia, which will provide a magnificent base for our use when we are able to take the offensive again. We should also get bases from the Russians from which we will be able to carry the fight directly to the island of Japan,"
