The Rev. J. S, Somerville, of Tapanui, has been appointed to serve as a chaplain with the Armed Forces. He was granted leave of absence for a year at a meeting of the Presbytery of Mataura.

Mr. G. H. B. Lill, a well-known resident of Wiiloughby, South Canterbury, was elected vice-president of the Methodist. Church of New Zealand at the openiftg session of the annual con' ference in Wellington last night. Mr. Lill is well known in public life in South Canterbury and has been associated with the Methodist Church all his life.

The Rev. W. Grigg, a superumerary minister of the Methodist Church residing in Christchurch* and Mr. E. Dixon, the lay representative of the Hawera circuit, were both complimented by the Methodist Conference, which opened in Wellington last night, on attaining the golden anniversary of their weddings. ;
