METHODIST CHURCH
CONFERENCE OPENED
After delegates had spent three days in committee work preparing for the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, the conference proper was opened in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, last night. The retiring president, the Rev. W. A. Burley, presided, and the presidentelect, the Rev. W. Walker, was inducted to his office. He was introduced to the retiring president by the Rev. F. Copeland, who had associated with him the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse and Messrs. J. H. Blackwell and T. Thompson.
The Rev. W, G. Slade was introduced as secretary of the conference, and other appointments announced were: —Assistant secretaries, the Revs. H. L. Fiebig and F. J. Parker; minute secretaries, the Revs. G. R. Harris and C. R. Taylor; journal secretaries, the Revs. G. R. H. Petersen and H. C. Matthews; corresponding secretary, the Rev. B. M. Tasker; Press secretary, the Rev. R. B. Gosnell; precentor, the Rev. A. M. Costain, ■
The Rev. C. H. Olds, 8.A., of Hastings, was returned as president-elect for 1943, and the Rev. W. G. Slade was elected secretary for 1943.
The programme for the evening included singing by combined choirs and the inaugural address of the Rev. W. Walker.
