DUMMY PERISCOPES
DEVICE OF JAPANESE
HONOLULU, February 18
Dummy periscopes made of wood, bamboo, glass, tin cans, and coral have been found in the sea off Pearl Harbour.
Apparently they were set adrift by the Japanese to lure army, navy, and aerial patrols into wasting their bombs.
Navy officers here say that the device would not fool a surface observer for. very long, and it could not dupe an aerial observer for even a few seconds.
