HOSTESS HOUSE TO SERVE
NEW PURPOSE
The suggestion that Hostess House, Auckland, should continue to function as a patriotic activity but on a broader basis than previously was decided at a meeting of the Hostess House sub-committee this week. Opened on November 1. 1940, with the object of providing accommodation for the mothers, wives, sisters, and fiancees of soldiers, the house has approximately 1850 bookings during the year, relatives of.soldiers travelling from all parts of the Dominion to stay at the house for varying periods.
It is now proposed to open tne house to women whose menfolk have been killed or who are missing or prisoners of war. It is thought that some of these women might be. desirous of spending a quiet holiday in the country. This suggestion has been approved by the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council.
