DAMAGES FOR INJURIES

Bernard Joseph Spurway, tramway conductor, aged 22, who claimed £4000 general damages and £91 15s 6d special damages from the Wellington City Corporation for the loss of his left leg as a result of a tramway accident on August 25 last, has been awarded £2750 general damages and the ,full special damages by a jury of twelve in the Supreme Court. Mr. Justice Blair presided. Dr. O. C. Mazengarb appeared, for the plaintiff, and Mr. J. O'Shea for the Corporation. On a-claim for £1750. general damages and £851 9s special damages, Harold Brown, a mechanic, of Wellington (Mr. Evan Parry), has been awarded, by a jury £750 general damages and £564 9s special damages against. James Hardy, restaurant proprietor (Mr. W. E. Leicester). The plaintiff's motor-cycle and the defendant's car. collided in Willis Street on May 28, 1940. The plaintiff's thigh was broken and the injury resulted in- a j permanent limp. Mr. Justice Ostler presided.
