SHIPPING CLERKS' AWARD

Complete agreement in conciliation council was reached in the New Zealand Shipping Officers' Industrial Union of Workers' dispute yesterday, and the results will form a new Dominion award. Mr. M. J. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner, presided, the advocate for the workers was Mr. G. R. Clark (Wellington), and the adivocate for the employers was Mr. K. A. Belford. Minimum wages agreed to were:— Men, from £60 in the first six months to £320 in the twelfth year; women, from £60 in the first six months to £195 in the seventh year. Increases in salary after these periods are to be on merit. Compensation for hours worked in excess of 88 a fortnight is to be made by way of time and a half off for every hour, with a minimum of three hours' time ofE for any time worked on Sundays or holidays, and there are payments and time-off provisions for work done after 12.30 on Saturdays, and for work on Sundays and holidays.
