CONFERENCE HELD

WAR MATTERS

CABINET AND PARTY

The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) and all the members of Cabinet conferred this morning, in the Labour Party caucus room of Parliament House with the council of the Federation of Labour and the executive of the Labour Party. The conference lasted from 10.30 till shortly after I p.m., and is'to be continued this afternoon. . When the conference adjourned Mr. Fraser stated it was discussing various matters in connection with the war effort and others arising from war conditions. The Prime Minister did not define what he meant by this, phrase. It is known that outside Parliamentary circles recent utterances by two members of Cabinet on industrial matters have not met with favour in trade union circles. Possibly, therefore, the conference may haye been called to clear the air and to arrive at a better understanding between the Government and the, industrial movement supporting the Government party.
