BRIGADIER HARGEST

IN PRISON CAMP IN ITALY

(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, January 8

Advice has been received by Mrs. Hargest that her husband, Brigadier J. Hargest, is a prisoner of war in Italy, and that he is well. The news was contained in a cablegram from

the Apostolic Delegate in Sydney to the Minister of Defence. The advice came from the Vatican.

Brigadier Hargest was taken prisoner in the Libyan campaign when his headquarters were overrun by Nazi mechanised forces. He is in a prison camp with other high officers who were taken prisoners in the Nazi counter-offensive in Libya last June.
