HERE AND THERE

Spinsters' Club Activities.

During November over 1100 men of the Forces have received hospitality at the Spinsters' Club on Sundays, and many hundreds were also present at the Friday night dances. Last Sunday the club rooms looked particularly attractive with early summer flowers, artistically arranged. Dance extras were played by two visiting girls, and a savoury tea was served by the members, who also gratefully acknowledge the gift of a flower stand to the club. The Spinsters' Club has arranged a "shop day" on Friday, to raise funds for the R.S.A. This shop, which will be in Lambton Quay, will be stocked with cakes, preserves, and produce, etc. Members will be grateful for gifts of all kinds. Extensive War Work. The Comasonic Benevolent circle recently held its final' meeting of .the year. Because of pressure of war duties, Mrs. Reid, J.P., was compelled to resign the presidency, the office being taken ' over by Mrs. Cross. One hundred and twenty knitted articles, comprising pullovers, socks, balaclavas, sea boots, mittens, etc., have been made, and distributed through the Navy League, Red Cross, and refugee channels. Many articles of clothing have been made and many parcels have been distributed privately. The circle looks forward to renewed war service in the New Year under the presidency of Mrs. Clare Makin. Karori Townswomen a Busy Group. A sales table in aid of the war effort circle was well supplied with novelties suitable for Christmas gifts when the Karori branch of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen's Guilds met recently. They were the work of the dressmaking circle. Several new members were welcomed. A talk by Mrs Grenfell on "Child Psychology," a oneact play presented by the drama circle, and several competitions, were all much enjoyed. Other recent activities of the guild included a function given by the drama circle in aid of the Karori Soldiers' Welfare Association. The entertainment, .produced by Mrs. Toms, was responsible for the raising of a substantial sum. The guild's Chrstmas party has been arranged for the first week in December.
