CHILDREN'S LEAD
SERVICEMEN BENEFIT FROM
BAZAAR FUNDS
Five small children, again from the Berhampore district, called on Mrs. C. E. Dunn, N convener for soldiers' parcels for the Berhampore-Island Bay branch of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guild (Inc.), and handed her £4 6s to be spent on comforts for the sailors, soldiers, and airmen serving overseas. These small people, who ages ranged from five to ten years, were Yvonne, Donald, and Paul Roadley and Judith and Harry Russell. The funds were "raised as a result of a bazaar which was held at the home of one of thr families. The interesting and most touching thing about the children's gesture was that almost all their stock was made with their own hands.
The articles were many and, varied, from pot holders to pikelets. One of the little girls wrote out advertising notices and put them in the letter-boxes of householders. The pride of their achievement was displayed in the happy, eager little faces as they handed over the brown paper bag containing their hard-earned sum in everything from half-pennies to £1 notes.
