WAR IN ABYSSINIA

EFFECTIVE BOMBING OF

ENEMY

(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) RUGBY, October 31. A Nairobi communique states: "The R.A.F. on October 30 bombed trenches at Noradibra, north of Gondar. The S.A.A.F. carried out tactical reconnaissances. "Reliable reports being received indicate that our recent bombing raids in -the area north-east of Gondar caused considerable casualties among enemy troop concentrations. Our ground patrols continue their activities against enemy outposts. "Another important Kamant chief •has joined the patriot forces." The communique adds that it is probable that recent unfounded rumours of the invasion of French Somaliland arose from minor disturbances amongst the Danakil tribesmen within the ■French border. The tribesmen are disgruntled because the Vichy French have recently been requisitioning their , food supplies.—B.O.W.

Two petitions in bankruptcy were filed in Wellington last month, making the total for the year eleven. Two were also filed in October of 1940, but in the first ten months of last year there were twenty petitions.
