RAILWAY WORKSHOPS
ALLEGATION ABOUT ADDINGTON
The allegation that the Addington railway workshops were a "funk-hole" for many men was made by Mr. E. F. Willcox (Christchurch) at the meeting of the Dominion council of the N.Z.R.S.A. yesterday. He expressed the opinion that if there were not some inquiry into the position there would be serious trouble among older men and returned soldiers.
Some of the jobs that were being done "at the workshops by single fit men could be handled by older men or even female labour/said Mr. Willcox. There had also been cases of men being transferred to the Hutt workshops, which were apparently regarded as doing •more essential war work. The matter of single men employed in railway workshops and exempted from service should be the subject of inquiry.
