NEW AIR FLEET SOON
HELP FOR CHINESE
COMING FROM AMERICA
LONDON, October 10.
The first' United States military mission to China arrived in Chungking today on the thirtieth anniversary of the Chinese Republic.
•Today, also, a stabilisation conference on the Chinese dollar began at Hong Kong, and the United States economic envoy to the Far East, Mr. Henry Grady, arrived at Manila on his way back to report to President Roosevelt. He said at Manila that he had received assurances from officials in China, Malaya, the Netherlands East Indies, Burma, Ceylon, and the Philippines that every effort would be made to increase production and speed up the delivery of strategic materials for the United States and Britain.
He added that within a few weeks China would have an effective air force composed entirely of American planes, and these would reduce the threat to the Burma Road.
The Axis, he said, would get no war materials from south-east Asia.
