HEROES OF AIR FORCE
(Rec. 9 a.m.) RUGBY, October 10. An R.A.F. officer who has carried out 68 raids since hostilities with -Italy began is among the recipients of awards in the latest list, which includes a bar to the D.F.C, several D.F.C.s, and one D.F.M. This officer has bombed aerodromes at Gazala and Derna and targets near Bardia and Tobruk. He has attacked convoys, and during evacuation of Crete he secured information which enabled the Navy to destroy several enemy ships and compelled an enemy convoy to turn back. Another officer personally destroyed three Messerschmitts in one combat. He has destroyed eight enemy aircraft in the air. Others decorated played distinguished parts in the successful operations in Syria. One recipient is said to have shown exceptional skill as a bomber during 75 operational sorties in East Africa, the Western Desert, and in Syria.—B.O.W.
