HOME GUARD
COURSE OF INSTRUCTION FOR
OFFICERS
Starting on Monday, October 13, a special course of instruction for officers and non-commissioned officers of the seven Home Guard battalions in the Wellington area will be inaugurated. The course will extend over three fortnightly periods at intervals, and will be open to six officers and six n.c.o.s from each battalion. Instruction will take place during evenings and on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. The officers from the four city battalions—Melrose, Watts Peninsula, City, and Makara—will attend at Buckle Street, and those from the Somes and Hutt Battalions at Petone. The training centre for the Marshall Battalion has yet to be determined. The Melrose, Watts Peninsula, City, and Makara battalions will attend from October 13 to October 26; from November 10 to November 23; and from December 8 to December 21.
The Somes, Hutt, and Marshall Battalions will attend from October 27 to November 9; from November 24 to December 7; and from January 12 to January 25. Those who attend the courses will be trained as instructors, and when this series is finished another, following a similar schedule, will be instituted for other officers and n.c.o.s of the Home Guard.
