MENINGITIS
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—ln your Thursday's number appears a statement by Dr. H. Smith, Medical Officer of Health, that pasteurisation would remove the danger in raw milk of transmission of meningitis germs. As a layman I should like to ask Dr. Smith three questions:—
1. What degree of heat is necessary to kill the germ of cerebro-spinal-meningitis?
2. Is pasteurisation of milk as practised in Wellington sufficient to kill the germ? ' 3. After pasteurisation is there no further danger of a contact or carrier transmitting the germ by taking- part in the distribution of the bottles?—l am, etc.,
VITAMIN.
