PUNGENT FUMES

FIRE IN PHARMACY

Clouds of pungent fumes swept over part of the city on Saturday afternoon as the result of a fire which occurred at the rear of Boots' Pharmacy, Willis Street. The part of the building in which the fire occurred was used as; a general store for the supply of branches.

With the aid of oxygen masks, firemen, after forcing an entrance, made their way to the south-eastern corner of the third and fourth floors, where fire had broken out among stacks of chemicals. Most of the damage was confined to the rear section of the third and fourth floors, but the rest of the building suffered from the effect? of smoke, heat, and water. At no time, however, did the flames get a really substantial hold.

Members of sections 8 and 10 of +he E.P:S., "who were carrying out a practice test, assisted the firemen and kept control over the traffic and the crowds of onlookers.
