VOTED WITH GOVERNMENT

MR. H. S. S. KYLE'S ACTION

Mr. H. S. S. Kyle (National, Riccarton) walked into the lobby with Government members to assist in the defeat of an amendment moved by Mr. J. N. Massey (National, Franklin) during the committee stages of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Bill in the House of Representatives last night. '■

Mr. Massey's amendment proposed that one of the two Public Works Department representatives on.the Rivers Control Council be dropped, and Mr. Kyle rose to express his conviction that such a step would be a retrograde one. A division followed and cheers were heard from without when Mr. Kyle joined Government members.'

On his return to the House Mr. Kyle was publicly congratulated, to the amusement of the House, by Mr. A} S. Richards, the junior Government Whip. . "
