Helmore, were present at the Citizens' Intercessory Service in. the Town Hall. September 8. This morning his Excellency the Governor-General received Captain R. H. Bevan, R.N. Mr. L. J. Calvert, who has been actively connected with the Institute Old Boys' Cricket Club, for twenty-one years, was made a life member of the club at the annual meeting of members. Keen appreciation was expressed of his service to the club. Brigadier W. H. Cunningham, C.8.E., D.5.0., and Colonel J. B. Mawson, M.C., arrived in Wellington from Auckland on Saturday. Mr. F. H. Perrin, of .Calcutta, manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Limited, for India, has arrived in Auckland' on furlough, accompanied by Mrs. Perrin. Mr. David Kee, who is well known for his work in New Zealand with the Church "Army, has lately been in charge of a Church Army mobile canteen in Eritrea and Abyssinia. He went to Palestine last month to take charge of a Church Army hut there. Sir Harry Batterbeei High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, will visit Chfistchurch from September 20 to September 23. The High Commissioner proposes to see something of the war work being done in. Christchurch, including that of the patriotic societies providing comforts for the Armed Forces. '
