STRONG NOTES TO IRAN
BRITAIN AND RUSSIA
DANGER OF NAZI "FIFTH
COLUMNISTS"
LONDON, August 17.
Reports continue that Britain and Russia have sent strongly-worded Notes to Iran drawing attention to the dangers if Nazi "fifth columnists" are allowed to continue their activities in Iran.
The Notes, it is believed, do not represent an ultimatum, but point out that the dangers to which Iran may be
preparedjto. shut her eyes also vitally affect Britain and Russia, who therefore have more than an academic interest in the matter.
The Turkish reaction to the British and Russian declaration has been one of restrained pleasure, says the Ankara correspondent of "The Times." The Turks realise that the declaration removes any misgivings they may have entertained concerning Russian plans towards them. The Press is taking pains to make it clear that Turkey is not adopting any course which could be interpreted as hostility towards Germany.
