SINISTER DESIGNS

DETECTED IN JAPAN

SINGAPORE DISAPPOINTMENT

(Rec. 2.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 15. In Tokio the Domei news agency quotes an authoritative source as saying that the British-American declaration firstly pledges Britain not to make a unilateral peace with Germany, secondly, underwrites the alleged AngloAmerican aims for Anglo-Saxon world domination and thirdly, demonstrates the Anglo-American failure to grasp the real causes underlying the European war. The Domei agency adds that joint military action against Japan was one of the basic topics discussed by President Roosevelt and Mr. Churchill. In Singapore the "Straits Times," criticising the Anglo-American declaration, said: "We had hoped for an uncomprising reference to Japan, and for a definite 'hands-off warning. Instead we have what appears to be one more veiled offer of appeasement in K the Far East and that certainly will not curb the hotheads in Tokio." The Madrid newspapers give promin- j ence to the Atlantic meeting. | The Fascist newspaper "A.8.C." says:, "While Roosevelt and Churchill digress j with echoes of Geneva, Germany, in South Russia, has begun to reply by finishing the war, making peace—with victory."
