GOLF
ROVING PLAYER PROBLEM
The Wellington Metropolitan Golf Association has decided to issue to. affiliated clubs membership cards which would prevent a roving "ayer belonging to no particular club playing on a course without contributing anything towards its upkeep except green fees. It was stated that a number of golfers are in the habit of representing themselves as members of clubs with which they have no connection, when visiting a strange course, and the introduction of the card system would enable a check to be made. It is hoped that this system will later spread over the whole of New Zealand. A compulsory standardised scheme of handicapping fof New Zealand was envisaged by some delegates present, and the association decided to ask the Golf Council to submit to the next annual meeting of the New Zealand Association, a suggestion to this effect for consideration.
The question of inter-club games during the war years was discussed, and the general opinion was that friendly games should go on where possible, although it was pointed out that, difficulty was frequently experienced owing to the demands of Home Guard and E.P.S. duties on players. It was decided that delegates should consult their clubs on the matter, further arrangements to be made by the management committee.
The election of officers resulted as follows:— Executive. Messrs. R. A. Whyte ( Wellington). D. A. Anderson (Karori), M Paulin (Hutt), H. A. Hansen (Shandon). J. D. Nash (Rangimarie). and D. Aitken (Paremata); hon. secretary and treasurer MV T P. Davis (re-elected).
