BOX SENT TO WELLINGTON

Acorns collected in Windsor Great Park have arrived safely in Wellington. They were sent at the request of the Queen to.Miss.Mynah J. Thompson, assistant secretary of the Wellington branch of the Royal Society of St. George. .... Miss Thompson intends to present the acorns to the Royal Society of St. George, one of whose members. Mrs. Knox Gilmer, will be entrusted with; the task of raising them to trees until they are large enough to transplant. In a few years it may be possible, with' the co-operation of the Beautifying Society, to arrange an avenue of English oak trees in W/ellington. MESSAGE OF GOOD WILL. The letter which accompanied the gift was written to Miss Thompson by a lady-in-waiting, and said: "Her Majesty and the Princess have been greatly interested in hearing that you are the daughter of a Windsor man, and would like to think that you will one day visit the scenes of your father's childhood and early life; i "I am cormznanded to send you a box of acorns collected in Windsor Great Park, and to tell you on behalf of the Queen and, Princess Elizabeth .how much they? hope that the trees will grow and cast their shade over happy New Zealanders for many centuries to come."
