SUPPORTERS THANKED
Mr. Hislop and Mr. McKeen spoke briefly at" the Concert Chamber after the posting of the results of the Mayoral contest, thanking electors who had supported them and their committees and others who had worked for them during the campaign.
"On an occasion such as this, I can only thank all those who have worked for me and my team, who have votea and expressed confidence in us," said Mr. Hislop. "During my next term I will do the same things on the same principles as I have done in the past, and will devote all my energy to serving the people of Wellington,, and through them the people of New Zealand, and to supporting the people of Britain who are standing the brunt of the fight for freedom —that is what we must keep ahead of us all the time." Mr. Hislop specially thanked his wife for the assistance she.had given him in his campaign.
The Mayoress called for three cheers for Mrs. McKeen, who, she said, had always been a great friend of hers.
Mr. McKeen thanked those who had worked for him during the campaign ana those who voted for him. He extended his congratulations to the Mayor on his magnificent victory. "I have been too long at this game," said Mr. McKeen, "to worry in the slightest about win or lose. We in the Labour movement get so used to that
