POLLING PLACE DETAILS

Mr. T. C. A. Hislop gained an easy victory over Mr. R. McKeen, by a majority of almost 9000 votes, about 3000 greater than his majority over Mr. C. H. Chapman in the 1938 election, when the voting was Hislop 24,368, Chapman 18,198. It was evident from even the earliest of the returns received at the Town Hall that Mr. Hislop would be reelected with a wide margin, and though there were fluctuations in the posted progressfve totals there was never any doubt about the result. The totals on the first count were: T. C. A. Hislop (C.) 19,896 R. McKeen 10,958 Majority 8,938 Informal, 273. Mr. Hislop received a majority of the votes at no less than 57 of the 73 polling places. The .16 polling places where Mr. McKeen polled more heavily than Mr. Hislop were Basin Reserve. Adelaide Road, Luxford Street, Aro Street, Cambridge Terrace, Trades Hall, Webb Street, the wharf, Melrose, Miramar Central, Newtown Library. St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown, Vivian Street;' Houghton Bay, Mornirigton. and VGgeltown. The details of voting at the separate polling places are:— Hislop. McKeen.
