ROYAL AIR FORCE BAND
Wellington was given another opportunity last night to hear the splendid band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force before its departure on tour. Flight Lieutenant Gladstone Hill, conductor of the band, submitted a highly popular and diverse programme, including the native New Zealand works, "Tangi" (Alfred Hill) and "Maori Rhapsody" < Lew Jones). The outstanding work in the programme was the "Cockney. Suite" (Ketelbey), descriptive of. London and its life in terms of music. The band as a whole and individual instrumentalists gave of their best not only in this particular suite but in every other number in the programme. The drummers added to their previous popular successes in their brilliant waltz number. The excellence of the organisation as a fullyequipped British military band, its balance, and accomplishments were warmly recognised by the audience last night in the applause given to the conductor, solo performers, and the .band as a whole.
