NAZI-MADE RUMOURS
BRITISH, INTERVENTION
(Rec. 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, May 1
Referring to rumours of intended British intervention in Spain and Portugal, the Foreign Under-Secre-tary, Mr. R. A. Butler, stated in the House of Commons that .hese were devoid of foundation.
"They are put out," Mr. Butler said, "by German propaganda agencies with the object of stirring up ' feelings against Britain among the Spanish and Portuguese peoples and furthering German plans for penetration in the Iberian Peninsula. It is the earnest hope of the British Government that these plans will be frustrated and that the .Spaniards and Portuguese will be spared the miseries of war," —8.0. W.
