SLIPS ON RAILWAY
LOST TIME AT COLLIERY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, February 14,
Heavy rain this week caused another slip on the Rewanui railway line and as a result the Liverpool State mine was idle on Thursday. A three-car train ran to the slip, but as it takes at least five cars to convey the miners, it was realised on Wednesday night that transport for. all men would not be available and an announcement was made by the State Miners' Union that the mine.would not work.
Jt is not considered that the loss of the day's work will greatly affect this week's shipments of coal as the mine bins are fairly full. The ,slip was cleared again late on Thursday afternoon. It was the third on the line in the past two weeks, and the mine employees have lost five out of nine shifts as a result.
An official of the Railway Department states that a definite regulation limits the weight of trains on the Rewanui line. An offer had been made to run two three-car trains, but it meant a difference of an hour and a half in departure times from Dunollie and the offer was not accepted.
