DEATH OF A SOLDIER

Major B. T. Reynolds, head of the military intelligence unit at the Ministry of Information, was killed recently by a bus while going home during a black-out. Major Reynolds, who was forty-eight years old. was wounded and won the. Military Cross while serving as a gunner in Mesopotamia in the World War. He was for a time during the present war in command of the Press relations unit at the British Expeditionary Force headquarters at Arras, France. Later he returned to England and took up his post at the Ministry of Information. He had been military correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian" and - wrote a book "Prelude to Hitler," based .on his experience from 1923 to. 1926. when he was a liaison officer, with the British Army of the Rh"ine. His fluent German and his knowledge of Germany caused him to beincluded. in the first Runciman mission to Czechoslovakia. He remained a£ one of the British officers concerned ". with the Czech o-Slqvak plebiscite. He returned under no delusions as to the German military intentions. His wide military knowledge of Germany and his keen judgment were, always at the disposal of newspaper men.
