PLAY RESUMED

CRICKET AT AUCKLAND

M CLEOD BATTING WELL

CRAWFORD UNLUCKY

(By Telegraph—Press ilssodation.)

AUCKLAND, This Day,

When the Centennial Cup cricket match was resumed this morning in threatening weather Weir and Burke opened the bowling to McLeod and P. D. Wilson, who were not out when rain stopped play yesterday after Wellington had lost one wicket for 28. Weir came off after bowling one over and was replaced by Cleverley. The pitch was responsive to spin but the wicket was easy, and by careful batting, aided by bad fielding by Andrews and Wai-, lace, the. fifty had just been : hoisted when' Wilson, with his score at 18, reached forward to smother an offspinner from Burke and was caught behind by dackman, as Hepburn had been the previous day.

Crawford joined his skipper, who, by the time 69 was hoisted had made 35, a straight drive and a leg glide for 4's in consecutive overs off Cleverley. With 70 on the. board Andrews * replaced Cleverley, who had taken on the role of Auckland's fast bowler, with an occasional off spinner.

Crawford relished the new bowler and got him away several times through the slip .field. With the total at 85 McLeod drove Burke hard and the ball hit his partner on the ankle. Crawford hobbled about for quite a time and Pritchard was sent in to run for him. Crawford added only one more single when he, was-dismissed in a peculiar way. He played forward to a ball from Andrews and touched it. Before he could regain the crease-the ball:which kept low, rebounded off Jackman's pads and Crawford was run out.

D. S. Wilson cam§ next. When the -total was 98, McLeod reached his halfcentury with a square-cut off Andrews.
