FLEET ACTIVE
THE MEDITERRANEAN
ADMIRAL'S MESSAGE
END TO DIVE-BOMBERS
LONDON, February 5. German air intervention in the Mediterranean apparently is not being sustained, for a special correspondent on board a British battleship reports tonight that the Mediterranean Fleet has been cruising for the past four days Avithin range of the enemy's air bases. Before the cruise began Admiral. Cunningham issued a signal to all ships that dive-bombers, Italian or German, must be shot out of the sky. Since then certain units have fulfilled an important mission in the central Mediterranean, and light forces have kept up, without interruption, operations along the Libyan coast. They have exercised well inside waters that enemy aircraft could have easily reached, but there has been no attack. Early in the voyage an enemy spotting plane was believed to have reported the presence of the British ships in a neighbourhood where intense bombings have been carried out in the past, but that was the last sign of the enemy.
