RONGOTAI MEN GIVE DANCE

HOSPITALITY REPAID

Though they left it to their commanding officer. Wing Commander T. W. White, E.D., to put their appreciation into words, the men at the R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Rongotai, last night, gave practical evidence of their enthusiasm for the work girls of the various services clubs in Wellington are doing for their comfort by entertaining them to a special dance at the base. Coloured lights outside the assembly hall welcomed the many girls who accepted the invitation. The men had decorated the large dance room with palms and flowers and the large stage was gay with a huge halfmoon combining the R.N.Z.A.F. colours and the emblems of ■ air gunners and other arms of the Service. An orchestra of airmen formed' • within recent weeks from volunteer enthusiasts at the station supplied excellent dance music and each of its members, from the string-plucking 'cellist to the vigorous .pianist, seemed to be getting as much enjoyment from the dance as the dancers themselves. An ample buffet supper was provided in the theatrette.

All the arrangements had been made by a committee of airmen and the idea of repaying, in some part, the hospitality extfetided"'to lhem during leave hours, carpe .from the men themselves. Wing Commander White, voicing their appreciation, complimented the guests on their youth and beauty as,,well as on their work for the men of the Services. , Buses conveyed the girls back into town.
