The Secretary of State, Mr. Hull, replying to the America First Committee, defended Lord Halifax. "The British Ambassador's visits to Mr. Bloom and Senator George." he said, "were formal courtesy calls. The State Department does not consider that such calls constitute a departure from established precedent."
