MR. WILLKIE'S TRIBUTE

UNITY OF THE PEOPLE

VISIT TO EIRE

LONDON, February 4.

Mr. Wendell Willkie was this afternoon received by the King at Buckingham Palace. Only a short time before going to the Palace Mr. Willkie had returned from Eire. He said that Mr. de Valera and he had had a friendly talk. "I got the information I wanted to get," said Mr. Willkie.

Asked what impressions of Britain he would take back to the United States, Mr. Willkie said he did not want to draw conclusions yet.

"One thing, very definitely, I can say," he said, "and that is. the British are an altogether united people. 1 think the British people are almost miraculously fortunate in their leadership at the present time."

He added that he doubted whether in history any man was so suited to the task of carrying the war through as the Prime Minister of England.
