BOXING

STRICKLAND V. RICHARDS

(By relesraph—l'ress Association.)

AUCKLAND, February 4

A special meeting of the committee of the Auckland Boxing Association was held tonight to discuss a proposed bout between Maurice Strickland, New Zealand, and Ron Richards, Australia. Negotiations had been in progress for such a match to be held in Auckland during the present month.

The committee unanimously decided upon the following resolution:— "That any authority given to Mr. Charles Lucas to negotiate on behalf of the Auckland Boxing Association bo withdrawn: (a) In view of the fact that the association had endeavoured to facilitate arrangements for a Strickland-Richards contest, even to the extent of obtaining guarantors against possible loss, and (b) on account of there being no further correspondence from Mr. Lucas as promised in his letter of January 23 and because the committee understands other negotiations are in progress by Mr. Lucas whereby a match between the said boxers is likely, to take place in Australia."

It has already been announced that Strickland is to meet Richards in an open-air bout under Mr. Lucas's promotion at the Sydney Sports Ground on February 24.
